New Home Cardmaking Tutorial

Hi there!

Welcome to the very first video tutorial from Cornflower Iris. Today, I'll be sharing an adorable card and envelope to celebrate some friends moving into a new home.

Supplies used:

  • 280 gsm Papermania Kraftstax kraft card
  • 160 gsm Ivory cardstock from Ryman
  • Papermania Country Life A5 patterned paper
  • 12"x12" paper pad from The Works
  • Jumbo crochet trim from Poundworld
  • Small adhesive pearls from Hobbycraft
  • Large adhesive pearls from The Works
  • Stamp set from Simply Cards & Papercraft Issue 163
  • Memento Tuxedo Black ink pad and pen
  • Crafter's Companion Verity Rose doily die
  • Xcut Beekeeping die set
  • Stitched rectangles die set from The Works
  • White gel pen
  • Foam pads
  • Tape runner
  • Glue pen
  • Guillotine from Tonic Studios
  • We R Memory Keepers 1-2-3 Punch Board
  • Homemade stamp positioning tool
  • Manual die cutting machine
  • Scoring board
If you don't have a die cutting machine, this design could be recreated with paper doilies and white heat embossed stamped images in the corners. A shop bought envelope can always be dressed up to match a homemade card, too, if you don't have the punch board.

I felt this card looked best clean and fresh (it is celebrating a new home, after all!) so haven't used any inking techniques whatsoever, making it very straightforward to recreate. The home sweet home paper was die cut with the stitched rectangle die to add a little finishing touch. To add interest to the kraft border around the outside of this panel, honeycomb die-cuts and adhesive pearls were used as accents.

In the video, I applied the patterned paper with a tape runner, then decided it needed something more and removed it to add the crochet trim. Don't be afraid to take apart your creations to make them better! I cut the doily from ivory cardstock and stamped the sentiment using a stamp positioning tool. Managing to get a baby wipe on the doily, I covered up the mark it left with a large adhesive pearl. Making this symmetric led to the unplanned pretty accenting seen on the doily; a happy accident!

For the inside of the card, I didn't have a stamp set with the sentiment I wanted so decided to hand write a sentiment using a white gel pen. I've kept the rest of the interior blank as this keeps in with the simple look.

To make the envelope, I cut a piece of complementary patterned paper to 8" 3/4 square and used the punch board. Adding the crochet trim and another die-cut doily further ties the envelope into the card design. I hand wrote the names of the lovely couple in a font to match the inside of the card and stuck it together with a tape runner. Below is the YouTube video of this tutorial.
