Diamond Embossed Birthday Card Video Tutorial

Hi there!

I'm back with a simple and striking card suitable for both men and women. Have a look at the video and then scroll down for more information!

If you liked the video, please don't forget to head over to YouTube and hit the like button; it really helps my channel and is very much appreciated. Originally, I wanted to stick to black, white and red to replicate the colour scheme of a pack of cards, but decided to add shimmer and many colours to really jazz up the design. The technique is very simple, with quite a striking effect.

--- Supplies Used ---
# 300 gsm hammered white card from Crafter's Companion
# 300 gsm smooth white card from Samuel Taylor's
# Spectrum Noir alcohol marker in CR8
# Promarker in XB
# Creative Expressions gilding wax in Deep Red, Pewter, Pearl Moon and Patina
# Checkered Argyle embossing folder from Craftwell
# Happy birthday die from Ornate Sentiments A5 die set from docrafts Xcut
# 160 gsm red card
# 220 gsm black card
# Crafter's Companion Sentimentals Spring stamp set
# Tape runner
# Trendy Blue Lifestyle 12x12" paper pad from The Works
# 1-2-3 punch board by We R Memory Keepers
# Xcut Xpress die cutting machine from docrafts
# Tonic Nuvo glue pen
# Paper guillotine
# Martha Stewart 12" scoring board
# Tombow soft brush pen in black
# Memento ink pad in Lady Bug (I got confused in the video!)

I used hammered white card for the card base to add a little texture and interest. Using the 'Happy Birthday' die, I drop shadowed a black sentiment with red to help it stand out from the background.

I embossed a white panel with the embossing folder and coloured some diamonds with a black Promarker and red Spectrum Noir marker. I then used the various gilding waxes to fill in the diamond pattern.

The gilding wax is quite hard, so had to be worked quite a bit with my finger to warm it up and make it pliable. After applying many layers, it achieves a really nice vibrancy and shine, however. The pattern was easy to keep up to, even though it looks quite complicated. Once the black diamonds were filled in, there was a reference point for all the others, making it much easier.

To make the envelope, I used this lovely patterned paper which seemed to go with the theme and colours, and the 1-2-3 punch board. I cut the paper to 8" 3/8 square then punched at 3" 1/2. I rounded the corners and burnished the score lines well, gluing it together with tape runner. I wrapped in natural string and used the back side of the paper for an address label, writing the recipient's name in the calligraphy brush pen.

I hope you liked this post and the card. If you did, please don't forget to head over to YouTube and like the video. You can find me on social media at the links on the left hand side of the blog. This card can be adapted with many embossing folders and is a great way to make a last minute card!

Thanks for reading all the way to the end!

Until next time,
Amy x
